  About Shachi / シャチ

Shachi was a juvenile female captured in February 1986. Being caught off the bay of Taiji, she went to Taiji Whale Museum, where she waited for the transfer to her final home. In May 1986 she was bought by Izu-Mito Sea Paradise. The young orca settled in well and soon performed during daily performances in a sea pen. Sadly she died within the first years in captivity. After catching pneumonia in 1988, she passed away in March.
  • Shachi is the word for "Killer Whale" in Japanese.
  • It also means "The Powerful or Helpful" in Indian and Sanskrit
  • Pronunciation of Shachi: sha-chee
