About
Sandy (SWC-OO-)
On
March 12, 1973, a female orca
was found stranded on the beach of Ocean
City. The young orca was soon sent to Seattle Marine Aquarium and later
was given the name, Sandy.
A release wasn't considered and Sandy remained at the aquarium. A few months later, she was joined by a recently captured male called Frankie* and in October 1973 she and Frankie* were purchased by SeaWorld San Diego.
She met many other orcas and even performed at the park and in 1975, she was sent along with Ramu to the new SeaWorld park in Florida.
Unfortunately Sandy died sometime in October 1977.
