  About Samoa (SWO-OO-8951)

Samoa was captured off the east coast of Iceland, along with 2 male orcas, Nandú* and Tilikum. The three were sent to Saedyrasafnid Aquarium, where they waited for their final destination. Samoa and Nandú were bought by Aquarama Sao Paulo in Brazil and arrived at a very small pool.

While Nandù* enjoyed his toys and even ate some basket balls, Samoa pretty much ignored them. Nandú* died 5 years after their arrival, leaving Samoa alone with some dolphins. She stayed in Brazil for another year and was sold to SeaWorld in 1989.

Prior to her move, her name is unknown and she was renamed Samoa when transported to Ohio and she was to perform with SW's Baby Shamu, Kalina* in Ohio.

When the summer season ended, Samoa was sent to the Texas park and she soon showed interest in Kotar*, the park's only bull and got pregnant by him. Her pregnancy went well and on March 14, 1992 she went into labour, after 2 hours Samoa passed away due to birth complications. She died at
06:22 CST.
