About
Sacchi /
サチIn
February 1982, five orcas were captured for Japanes marine parks.
Before the orcas were bought, all of them were moved to Taiji Whale
Museum. One of new orcas was Sacchi, an adult female, who showed an
enormous belly and was authorized
for a transfer quickly and
she arrived at Enoshima Marineland in March.
Two months after her transfer she went into labour and gave birth to a male calf. It was the first live birth at a Japanese dolphinarium. The calf swam to the surface for its first breath and appeared healthy. Unfortunately, Sacchi's son died 10 days after the birth. Sacchi survived until 1984, it's not known whether she performed in shows or not.
