  About Orky

Orky was accidentally caught in Port Hardy, British Coloumbia and although his capture was not planned, he was sold to Marineland of the Pacific. The park displayed many marine mammals, but Orky was the second killer whale on public display at the dolphinarium (the first being Wanda in 1961).

Soon he was trained for performances and immediately he was the star at the park. He built up a relationship to his trainers and they even entered the water with him. The park's income increased and soon they were looking for more orcas. In 1968, 2 new orcas arrived, and he perfomed alongside one, Corky*.

Unfortunately Orky died in July 1969, 3 years after capture. Apparently he caught pneumonia and probably influenza too.
