About
NeociaIn
1992, 2 orca calves were born at MLC. One was born to Kiska and Nootka
delivered a female calf just 2 months later. Sadly Kiska's calf died,
but Nootka's daughter flourished and gained weight; she was given the
name Neocia. After spending some time with her family, Neocia was sent
to the "warehouse", MLC's indoor pool. As the years passed Neocia got
many other siblings and Marineland ran out of space. So in 1998 a new
tank was built and the orcas were moved there. Neocia was soon
transferred back to the old performing stadium, King Waldorf Theatre,
to do the shows there. Her half-brother Nova joined her, but Neocia was
very dominant and harrassed him very often. After Nova's death, Hudson
was placed with Neocia, but that turned out even worse and he was soon
send back to Friendship Cove. Neocia got along very well with her
father, but also often tried to dominate him. During the last time they
spend together, she got pregnant by him. But she miscarried some months
later.
Neocia wanted to get all the attention from her trainers; she was the star and she let everyone know it. She was also really moody and often refused to do behaviours or didn't do them correctly. Neocia's dominant and aggressive attitude, may have been the result of the early separation from her mother.
