About
NAW-OO-C9701The
mature female was one of ten orcas captured on February 7, 1997 at
Taiji Bay. Five of them were chosen and were separated from the others.
While 3 of them got names, 2 remained
unnamed, NAW-OO-C9701* &
NAW-OO-C9702*.
NAW-OO-C9701 was a mature female, who appeared very big and it was thought to be pregnant so she, NAW-OO-C9702* and Kyu* were sent to Nanki Shirahama Adventure World.
The park already kept 3 orcas, and when Kyu and the two unnamed arrived, the orcas were curious about the newcomers and watched them curiously through the gates.
In April 1997, the female suffered a miscarriage, which has never been confirmed by the park, although apparently she lost about 2,5 tons (6000 lbs), which was mostly likely because of the miscarriage.
Although the capture has been "successful", none of the Taijis survived to this day. But more capture haven't been denied by the Japanese government.
