About
Maggie / マギー
Maggie
was one of 4 orcas captured off Seydisfjördur, off the east
coast
of Iceland. As soon as she was captured,
she was moved to Saedyrasafnid Aquarium, where
she, and her pod mates waited
for their final transfer.
In March 1988 all four were bought by Kamogawa Sea World and were moved out for their new home. At Kamogawa, they were placed in a temporary tiny pool, along with a male orca, Bingo, who had lived there for some years before. The park was in progress of building a new pool for the orcas. The new tank could not hold all 6 orcas so one of the five orcas, Bubba* was soon sold to another park and the 4 remaining orcas were moved to their new home.
All four performed for several years during shows and on March 3, 1995, Maggie* went into labour with her first calf. The baby was born alive but died 24 hours after the birth. Maggie* suffered after the death of her son but eventually got better after the loss of her baby and not long after, became pregnant again. This time Maggie* gave birth to a stillborn calf on October 5, 1997.
Unfortunately Maggie died herself 2 days later. The cause of death was never released but she probably died from birth complications.
