About
Lupa
In February 1968, the Seattle
Marine Aquarium decided to capture more
orcas from Vaughn Bay. Out of 15 orcas, one were chosen, an adult
female, later called Lupa*
and it was thought a young male, known as Hugo* was also caught with her, however it has recently been discovered, Hugo* was captured a year before.
On April 2nd, 1968, Lupa was moved to the New York Aquarium. She settled in well to her new home and was soon trained for shows. Unfortunately she died before she became the star of the park. Pneumonia, a disease of the respiratory system killed her in September 1968, one of the most common deaths.
