About
Kona
Along with 2 orcas, Kona
was captured off Penn Cove in August 1971. She was
transferred to Seattle Marine Aquarium until her final move to SeaWorld
California. Kona was soon trained and performed in shows shortly after.
She was used for waterworks too and none aggression towards trainers or
orcas is known. She grew up into a big female, almost reaching 6
metres. Sadly she passed away before she could breed with other orcas,
on September 28, 1977 she died from blood poisoning.
- Kona means "Woman" in Icelandic and "Lady" in Hawaiian
- Pronunciation of Kona: KO-nah
- Blood Type: 100% Southern Resident
