About
Kandu II
Kandu
was one of the many orcas captured off the west coast of the USA. He
was first purchased by the Florida Delfin Show in Germany where he was
flown to Bremen for 20 days before Marineland Canda made an offer and
bought him.
In September 1971, he arrived at the park as the first orca on display at Marineland. He was trained and soon participated in shows along with bottlenose dolphins.
After years of searching, Marineland finally found a mate for Kandu. The female arrived in 1973 and was named Kandy*. Both got along, but sadly Kandy died soon after her arrival.
Kandu remained alone until 1975, when Marineland bought Knootka* and Kanduke*. Kandu and Knootka* performed alongside each other for several years.
Unfortunately Kandu died from pneumonia in 1979.
