 About Kalina (SWF-OO-8501)
Kalina was the the first successful orca to be born and raised in captivity, and in the SeaWorld Parks. She formed a close bond with her mother, Katina, until she was moved away. When Kalina was moved to San Antonio, she met Kotar, a young orca bull. Despite her young age, she got pregnant by him and gave birth to her first son when she was just 7 years old.

Kalina was a wonderful mother and she taught her calves to be independent; this may be the reason why all of her calves were taken away from her at a young age.

She grew up with humans and formed close bonds to her trainers; she was also one of the gentlest orcas in captivity. She was really attentive and has never shown any signs of aggression, which made her to be one of the best performers in the world of captive orcas.

Kalina suddenly passed away on October 4, 2010.; the cause of death was Septicemia.
