About
K1 (Taku)
K1
was captured with several members of his pod. While the other were
shipped to different parks in the world, K1 was considered to
be too big and he was released on October 27, 1973; he was also
radio-tagged to follow his route.
Also before he left the bay, some cuts were made on his dorsal fin for easier identification. He was given the adoption name 'Taku' and was reunited with his pod and was seen many times.
Unfortunately he disappeared in 1997 and was presumed dead. It was believed that he was about 41 years old as the Center of Whale Research estimated that he was born around 1955.
