About
Jumbo / ジャンボ
Jumbo
was one of 80 orcas captured off Penn Cove, most of the whales were
released immediately. Seven orcas were chosen for captivity. Chappy*
and Jumbo were bought by Kamogawa Sea World and arrived
there in February.
Both were the park's star attraction and performed there for
some years. In 1972, another orca was bought, this time a japanes orca
called Zero*. Unfortunately Chappy died in April 1974 leaving Jumbo
alone. Jumbo finally followed him in July 1974 and passed away from a
liver dysfunction.
