Hudson
was the first orca to be born at Marineland
Canada's new tank complex: Friendship
Cove. He quickly grew during the first year and in 1999, when his half-brother,
Algonquin* was born, the two
became very close and inseparable. The two orcas often played with each other,
hunting sea gulls or interacting with guests through
the glass.
After Algonquin's* death, Hudson changed a lot. He became less active and he focused more on his trainers, learning many behaviours more quickly. Hudson was really patient and attentive unlike Algonquin*, who was easily distracted and often interrupted the training sessions.
For unknown reasons Nootka V*, Algonquin's* mother showed signs of aggression towards Hudson after her son's death. During a Christmas party in 2002, Hudson accidently jumped out of the pool; fortunately he wasn't hurt and just got some scars and rakes. Hudson was immediately put with his father and was separated from the females.
For the 2003 summer season he was moved to King Waldorf Theatre, in order to improve his performing skills. But Neocia* was too dominant and rough with him, so Hudson was sent back to his father and soon after, he was reunited with his mother and Nootka*.
Hudson was a fast learner and a good performer. But he was never trained for waterworks, because he liked to grab things around him, and this made it risky for humans to enter the water with him. At the age of 6, he was also trained for AI and semen was collected from him.
Sadly, on October 20, 2004, he passed away of meningitis
