About
Corky
In
April 1968, Corky was captured with several other orcas of her pod. She
and a male named Orky II*
were bought by Marineland of the Pacific and
were immediately transferred; both orcas probably met Orky*, the
resident male
orca soon after arrival.
After Orky's* death, Corky and Orky II* became the star performers at the park. While only doing simple tricks such as jumps, they managed to spark people's interest and capture their imagination.
As the orcas were so popular, Marineland purchased more orcas by the end of 1969. Corky met three new , younger and smaller orcas. Apparently all of them got along well, although they were separated at times as the tank was too small to keep 5 orcas.
Sadly Corky died in December 1970 from a mediastinal abscess.
