Capturing orcas in Iceland began to really kick off in 1977 with the capturing of six orcas off the south east coast of Iceland. They may have been taken to Saedyrasafnid Aquarium for a very short time before being moved onto Dolfinarium Harderwijk. At Dolfinarium Harderwijk, their health was assessed, genders were determined and were named.

Two months later Canuck and Kandu* were bought by SeaWorld San Diego and joined their resident bull orcas Winston* & Kilroy*. Another female  arrived shortly before them became their first tank mate at Sea World, her name was Kenau*.

The three newcomers were trained for the daily shows and Kandu* and Canuck were soon chosen for performances, while Kandu* did very well, Canuck was not making much progress at all so he was sent to the "Petting pool", where visitors were allowed to touch the animals.

Canuck seemed to enjoy that and even let visitors to pet his tongue. In 1978 he was joined by Kotar* and Kasatka. Until 1981, Canuck amused visitors by his playful personality. Sadly he passed away from a kidney disease on August 2, 1981.
