In 1982, 5 orcas were captured from Taiji Bay and like many other orcas from Taiji bay, all five orcas went to Taiji Whale Museum.

Marine parks immediately sparked interest in them and soon many of them were purchased and Benkei was bought by a private company.

He was kept at a "private home" and little is known about his life.

 Name Meaning & Blood Type:
- Benkei means "Japanese Warrior" in Japanese
- Benkei is pronouced: "behn-kai"
- Blood Type:  100% Japanese

 Family:
Benkei's family is unknown due to the lack of information about Japanese Orcas
