  About Asuka /  あ すか
Asuka was one of the last orcas captured for marine parks. At the time of her capture ten orcas were netted and five orcas were released whilst the others were kept and sold to aquariums.

Asuka stayed at Taiji Whale Museum for two days before arriving at Izu-Mito Sea Paradise. When she arrived, she was introduced to the other resident, Tanouk* and they got along well.

Although they both came from different waters, a breeding programme was in talk but unfortunately Tanouk* died in 2000 and Asuka didn't get a new companion.

Asuka spent the remaining years in the company of some dolphins and performed during daily shows.  On September 19, 2007, she passed away and there has been no word about her cause of death.

In memory of her, trainers and guests put flowers and pictures of her next to the tank.
