Facts and
FiguresMarineland
France (d'antibes or Cote d'azur) opened in 1970 by Roland de la
Poype’s fascination with the sea and its inhabitants. At the
time, hunting was still in its height so "By creating Marineland, I
wanted to raise public awareness", remembers Count de la Poype. At the
time, Dr Fernand Méry, President of the Conseil National de
la
Protection Animale, hailed the creation of Marineland in these terms:
"We must be grateful to the organizers of Marineland Côte
d’Azur for having brought together this exceptional
collection of
aquatic mammals. It will be necessary to review the data acquired so
far (not very seriously) on the intellectual hierarchy among animals."
